My boyfriend decided to treat me to a massage for my birthday because I have a very sensitive, weak body prone to muscle tension, and I had never had a massage before! He wanted to select somewhere very nice for my first spa experience, and his brother-in-law recommended Sego Lily Day Spa. My boyfriend called and scheduled a time 5 days in advance and paid for it with his credit card via telephone. I was told to come 10 minutes early, and I arrived 20 minutes in advance, expecting some kind of paperwork because I was new to the spa, or an issue with the payment since it was done in advance. However, the second I walked in the door I was greeted by the receptionist, who took my name and gave me a pair of sandal-slippers. Another woman took me back to the locker rooms, showed me around, and basically told me to take my time relaxing and enter the Meditation Room (waiting area) when I was ready. Their steam bath is incredible, and I felt very secure in my robe! The Meditation Room is a treat within itself! It was supremely calming. Their cucumber water was delicious, and my masseuse, Corinne, was welcoming and made me feel comfortable. The aromatherapy massage was the most relazing experience of my life!! The room was dark, the only light from one candle, and Corinne never made me feel exposed as she adjusted my sheet. She made sure to adapt the massage to my needs and even fetched some water for me when the massage ended. I took advantage of their showers (fully equipped) and the delightful pumpkin face wash, toner, and mare's milk facial lotion set out on the counter. I wanted to purchase those products, but couldn't find them in the main lobby! I had no issue with payment - upon leaving the receptionist asked if I would like to add a tip (to my boyfriend's credit card). No one ever rushed me from room to room, or tried to rush me into leaving immediately after the massage.Everyone there was very warm, helpful, and seemed glad to answer my questions.

After a very hectic week, I booked an appointment at the Sego Lily location in Midvale. The spa itself is beautiful! Ethereal world music sets the mood as soon as you arrive. I was checked in in a very timely manner and escarted to the relaxation lounge. The comfy sofas and low light really helped me focus on what areas of myself needed attention that day. My masseuse was very kind and listened attentively to what my concerns were and where I needed extra help. I have very tender shoulders, and she was very careful to work gently at first until I relaxed completely. I had two treatments and both were amazingly relaxing. I used the awesome steam room afterwards, and I have to say the rest of my weekend was peaceful and pain-free!

I have been enjoying Sego Lily for a couple of years now. Overall, I rate the spa a great place to relax. I really do enjoy the atmosphere and the amenities they offer. However, the past couple of visits were not that joyful. I only have space for one: I was late for a treatment once, and the masseuse was pretty irritated about it. I felt bad: got held at my work and then, in addition, traffic. I was pretty stressed trying to hurry in the first place, and I was looking forward to relaxing (can justify spa when feeling like I can't take stress anymore). The masseuse told me I was 20 minutes late, therefore, my treatment was to be cut short. She not only cut it short, I was shorted 35 min! I felt scolded and stressed even more. I didn't mind cutting the time short, it was my problem and I did need to be considerate of others time-wise. Nevertheless, I think it could've been said and acted out differently. My masseuse was Asian American, so I wonder if I should attribute what went on to cultural background (I'm a foreigner as well, so I can see misunderstanding happening on that level), otherwise, I am still trying to make sense out of it. When I am undressed, I feel pretty sensitive. And when I am undressed and feel guilty, and see that the person working on me trying to massage me with poorly concealed irritation (she did not talk to me for the entire time! I tried to break the ice with some questions - got only yes and no responses), I feel horrified. Needless to say, I had no relaxing experience that time at all. I purchased several treatments at the same time (for the first time), so the first masseuse just took me to the relaxation lounge and just left me there with no foretelling of future. I had no idea what was going on, had no idea that another treatment was to be performed by another person. I thought I could be very well done with all of my treatments for the day. I figured it out, but overall, that story was Crime and Punishment -like.
