Ogden >Utah Noodle Parlor
The combos are so expensive because they come with a lot of food. And, you would be right by saying this is not one of Ogden's better Chinese food places because they are AMERICANIZED JAPANESE, which is very different. And would explain why the don't have a lot of "Chinese" foods. If you are looking for Chinese there's always PandaExpress. However, Utah Noodle has very very good food and I would still recommend it if it was to re-open. (:
Worst Food In Utah.Yet Most Expensive. Got there all excited to have noodles, Opened the menu and most combos were priced at 15 dollars, The beef noodles were almost 9 dollars. If you like spending 9 bucks for a bowl of broth with a few Ramen type noodles in it with a couple green onions added. Then youll love it. But It is the worst food I have ever had I think and I eat out alot and the bill was about 60 bucks fo 3 of us and they dont have hot and sour or eggdrop soup, no eggrolls, no sweet and sour sauce, no refills on drinks, they charge for a cup of white steamed rice. This is not your common chinese restauraunt and the average menu item is 15 dollars. Ogden has some great chinese restaurants but this is not one of them.
Ogden's only Noodle Parlor. I have tried other chinese and Japanese places, my sister-in-law is from Taiwan, and i prefer the chow main, fried rice at the utah noodle, the shrimp is absolutly the best i've ever had. yes it has msg, but they have customers that come from all over the us to eat this food, i started working there as a cashier in may, and some of the stories i've been told by customers that have been eating there since they were children to couples that went there for their first date and have been eating there every year for their anniversary since, this place has been around for over 50 years, and still have a great customer base. All i can say is u have to try it atleast once, yes it is a little pricey but i think its worth it.
The worst EVER!!!!!. I have witnessed the way one of the ladys in the back ( guessing one of the owners) has treated there employees. Heard her yelling at the waitress for just trying to do her job. The service is great, but the way I see them treat there waitresses is horrible!!!!! The food I found out is full of MSG and cornstarch ( thank you little waitress). Yea, It's not very good!!!! very unheathly if you ask me! people who have been eating there for the years have deffinatly been complaining, there over priced. I have come by to pick up my take out order in the back and seen that they pound there shrimp flat and then they batter it up to make it look like its worth paying $5.00 a shrimp! These guys are raping the general public of money and quality of food!!!!! The hostess I over heard ( the kitchen tried staying quiet about it) reported that she had seen a mouse or rat that day( not sure wich one) in the kitchen running around. I will never go back there and I hope you guys read this before going there! the only thing that was good was the service. I asked one of the waitresses why the food comes out so quickly, she said that they let the food sit in hot containers all day. :( i dont see how a place like this has been running so long! I give the place a big fat F-. the girls ( waitresses) look very unhappy, but come to your table very cheerful, in hopes of great tips! Please people tip your waitresses! they go through alot of crap there As I have seen.
Part of local Ogden history, but horrible food. I really hate giving this place such a bad rating because I love supporting anything local but it was just so horrible that it was probably the worst restaurant food I have ever eaten. First of all, there was ONE thing on the menu that was vegetarian. Usually when I go to noodle houses/chinese places there are loads of veggie options. The one option that I had was an EGG SANDWICH and was disgusting. It consisted of two un-toasted & overly buttered pieces of bread and an over-medium cooked egg. That's it. It came with those ghetto frozen crinkle cut fries that you buy at the store and they tasted like freezer burn. My husband ordered some sort of noodle bowl that was similar to Top Ramen. He also ordered a soda and was given a WARM CAN with no ice. The only thing that looked remotely appetizing was my mom's giant pounded and fried shrimp, which ended up being gross as well. I give them credit for the shrimp because it was probably the only thing that is actually "prepared" in their kitchen. I could go on about other things but I won't. The poor quality makes me wonder if they really aren't doing so well and I would be a little sad if they went under because they are an Ogden icon and have been around almost 60 years, i think. I'm glad that I finally tried out this restaurant because of it's history, but I will NEVER eat there again and will not recommend it to anyone else.
Lovin' Uncle Leo's food for 40 years!. I've been eating at Uncle Leo's for a lotta years and still love their food. And yeh, I get cravings for the #3 combo plate too. I order the pan-fried noodles instead of the regular ones, so it makes the dish GURRRREAT! I recommend this restaurant to people who DON'T care for the slimey, slippery ,corn-starch slathered "authentic" Chinese food. I'll take Uncle Leo's over theirs ANYTIME! You other "authentic" asian conesseurs, take your business elsewhere. Uncle Leo's doesn't need your type in their restaurant anyway! There are plenty of good people patronizing and working at the establishment!
Visited "Utah Noodle" for the first time since the reopening. No obvious changes other than the reduced menu prices. The food was exactly as it's been since my parents first took me there 40 years ago.
As for the harsh criticism in other reviews: if you are expecting "regular" or "authentic" Chinese food, don't waste your time. This is a Chinese-American restaurant run by a Japanese-American (Uncle Leo). The menu includes T-bone steak, cheeseburger with fries, Halibut steak, and tossed salad. It is an eclectic mix of nostalgia--I won't describe the food as "excellent", but occassionally I just get that itch for a #3 combo (sweet-n-sour pork, chow mein, giant tempura shrimp (more tempura than shrimp, of course)). My wife is Japanese, and after I took her there the first time she swore she'd never go back. Now SHE's usually the one that suggests we go there. My teenagers also love the place, and they also love dim sum, sushi, pho, and all the other authentic ethnic food -- so it's not like they don't know any better.
Give it a try ! -- just make sure your expectations are realistic.
Utah Noodle - Great Again.
Some of the most recent reviews have been harsh. While I can't dispute them, because there could be some validity to it. I can say that when Utah Noodle re-opens in June under new management....it will be back to the way it was in it's Glory Days. I would encourage everyone to at least try it.
Prices are more realistic, and it's well worth the money!
Should have known. Avoid this place, very bad. Poor service was the best part, should have known that I would not find a good noodle shop in Ogden. Food was slop. Not sure why anyone would eat there. Cool sign tricked me, eat a bag of dog food for an upgrade. You could not pay me to eat there. They need to close this rat trap down. The 2 positive reviews were from a worker, most likely part of the Big love compound family that runs it, and the blinded by old times review.
if you have more than 4 tastebuds, go somewhere else..
they garnished our noodles with crushed potato chips. (stale, even)
most of the meat looked like canned dog food.
everyone in the restaurant just seemed sad.
there wasn't anything actually asian about it, it's bland bland bland white people food.
we went to rooster's for dessert and also to let people know that it is NOT worth anyone's time or money. this is one case where curiosity nearly killed the cat.
try lee's mongolian bbq. at least then your noodles will taste asian.
