What People Are Saying About El Matador Restaurant

In Short – Super-friendly waitresses in flamenco skirts serve up mounds of Mexican food and make sure you're happy, no matter how busy they are. It has all the usual suspects: tacos, enchiladas, burritos, tostadas, Spanish rice and refried beans. But there are a few surprises worth investigating. Combination dinners will satisfy indecisive diners and the nacho supreme, a generous platter of chips, cheese and ground beef, is topped with fresh, homemade guacamole. And if you love sweets, crunchy Mexican fried ice cream is a must.

Good enough food, better service.

by Jazziered at Citysearch

I go to El Matador for lunch quite a bit.

The food is good. The warm salsa is a nice change of pace and I get it with cheese. Yumm.. I like the enchiladas.

I now ask for Sandra because she is nice and fast with the service. Most important to me is that she kept my table clear. Good service is always a plus when you go out to eat.

I think El Matador is worth the trip for sure!!

Best Salsa Ever

by m gail young at Citysearch

My husband and I both love to dine here. Service and atmosphere are pleasant and warm and clean.

Chef Tony does a great job of producing the BEST Mexican food.

The salsa is my favorite ever, full of fresh vegetables and so flavorful! My husband loves the Chili Verdi, which is yummy. He orders it as a side dish - - it is so delicious and he sometimes puts it over his entree too. Do you know how food is so good you get a craving for it? That is El Matador.

We highly recommend you give it a try!

NOT AS GOOD AS BEFORE

by autahteddybear at Citysearch

I USED TO GO TO THE ORIGINAL EL MATADOR IN OGDEN. ON THE WEST SIDE OF OGDEN AVE.

Thought I would try the Bountiful local.

They made me wait to be seated there were a

lot of empty tables (why the 20 min wait)

I ordered the Veracruz platter w shrimp. The

server was kind she brings a basket of chips and

watery tasteless salsa I had he bring me some hot sauce it helped a bit.

The food was just ok ,but the Shrimp were not as good as before. Why the Chinese hot mustard? This is a Mexican cafe!! I am going back to Chubby's!

  • Pros: NICE ATMOSPHERE
  • Cons: FOOD NOT AS GOOD AS BEFORE

Best food in town...hands down!

by williefergue22 at Citysearch

I'm quite baffled by some of these negative reviews. I've been coming to El Mat since I was a little boy...and I've tried tons of different Mexican, and it's still the very best. The thing that kills me about these reviewers, is that they mention they don't love something about the food...but how about telling your server or asking for management?? El Matador has the BEST servers and management of any restaurant we've ever been to. If you aren't completely satisfied (the very few times something hasn't been perfect), they bend over backwards to take care of you. The food is delicious, the atmosphere is awesome, the service is the best...and I'd pay to eat there, just for a convo with the owner. Love El Mat!!!

  • Pros: Amazing chips and salsa, great fajitas and chimi's!
  • Cons: None...?

Popular place, Lousy Food

by ironib at Citysearch

The food was dry, and bland. My wife is a fan of mild salsa, but we both agree that the salsa tasted like tomato soup.

It's also really popular with the locals (not sure why) so the wait can be over 45 min. for a party of two. Especially on a weekend.

It's popular with families, and the prices are reasonable (it is Mexican food after all). So if you have kids it might be a good option. But if you don't like restaurants with lots of kids you probably won't like this one.

  • Pros: New building, nice interior, nice location, family friendly
  • Cons: Dry food, bland food, long wait, kids
