Hire some grownups (or manage the children!). I don't even pull in anymore unless there are only one or two customers in the store. Any more people than that and the staff is overloaded! There are usually plenty of teen staff on hand--four, five, six warm bodies behind the counter but none of them ever is interested in taking my order or my money or making my ice cream. We're not talking rocket science here: just a chocolate cone. I wouldn't DARE to order anything more complicated. Teens are social animals that will ALWAYS rather goof off than work, so either don't hire them, or hire someone to stand over them and keep them hopping (and cleaning). To the owner: You will easily re-coup the manager's pay by doubling the number of orders you process an hour. When customers like me see that service has improved, we will start coming more often and ordering more items!
Recommendation.
Rich and creamy! The best frozen treat! One of my favorites is the Concrete - - all flavors are terrific but I like the fruity Berry the best. Or for something really decadent, try the Cashew or the chocolate with your favorite topping!
To die for!
Notably excellent frozen custard from a family-run business for more than 20 years..
The Scene
From St. George to Bountiful, Neilsen's frozen custard is an evening tradition for many Utah families and couples, a steady stream of them leaving the stand happily licking away on a sugar cone or spooning at the cherries and chocolate topping on a sundae. It's all dessert at the original Holladay Nielsen's, but burgers, fries and chicken are available at the Bountiful location, hoagies in St. George, and hoagies and fries in Layton.
The Food
The "concrete" and "nut concrete" shakes are far more palatable
than the name suggests--thick, smooth custard with natural flavors, as in the vanilla and bumbleberry or caramel cashew, the most popular flavor. Fewer calories and cholesterol, too, due to the use of a little egg yolk in lieu of milk fats. Spanish nuts add flair to the sundaes, while takeout pints and quarts allow you to bring the party home.
There is much better!. Its slow, dirty, and I am still confused why everyone likes this place. Sure its frozen custard, but I have lived around the country and there is much better custard out there.
